Overview
Pi’ilani Civic Club of Colorado was built on the foundation of providing education to allow who were interested in the Hawaiian Culture. Although the impetuous of our organization is to assist in sustaining the customs and traditions of the Hawaiian people, our vision is to promote education. It is through education that the Hawaiian Culture will survive.
Purpose
The purpose of our scholarship program is to provide assistance to individuals is need of support for tuition to a post high school academic program. Scholarships will be provided to students who have a strong desire to continue their education and who have a need for support to attain their academic goals.
Applicant Criteria
Applicants must be members of Pi’ilani Hawaiian Civic Club of Colorado.* They may be high school senior or graduates who plan to enroll in a collegiate program or individuals who are already enrolled in undergraduate programs (two to fours years) at any accredited college or university for the following school term. Students must be in pursuit of an associate or baccalaureate degree. Funds may be spent on tuition and/or books as allowed.
Applicants will be expected to complete the scholarship application, provide three letters of reference and complete the essay portion of the application in its entirety. The application will be submitted in accordance with designated due dates. Each application will be evaluated using a system placing equal emphasis on academic and nonacademic accomplishments and activities. The applicant’s academic record, potential to succeed, participation in school and community activities, work history, and reference information will be evaluated and weighed.
Selection
The scholarship information, application availability, and due dates will be publicized in the club newsletter, web page, discussed at monthly meetings and placed on the club’s annual calendar. At least one scholarship will be awarded annually upon the implementation of the scholarship program. The Board of Directors will select a committee of two in addition to the Club’s Scholarship Chairperson to review all scholarship applications. Selection committee members may have no blood relationship to any candidate, nor will they be in a position to benefit, directly or indirectly, from the recipient. The selection committee will review each application selecting the best overall applicant.
Payment
Payment will be made at the completion of the term with proof of an average grade of ”B” or better (or its numerical equivalent)l, paid directly to the recipient. In the event of less than a “B” is achieved, the scholarship payment will be forfeited.
Record Keeping
The Scholarship Chairperson will maintain a history of all scholarship applicants and recipients, including the award allocation and date of payment. Applications will be maintained on file for two consecutive years.
